It had been a long week and Jim Ellison was ready for some much-deserved rest. Simon Banks, his Captain, gave him the next seven days off. A whole week. Simon understood what this last case had cost Jim, Blair and the whole Major Crime department. Each person reacted differently at the kidnapping, Blair held for ransom, beaten, and finally rescued by the combined forces of SWAT and various other police officers who volunteered.

Jim stood in the open doorway, looking at Blair Sandburg sleeping in his bed. There was a bandage over Blair's left eye, along with several bruises on his face and his right eye swollen shut from the beating. Jim was also witness to the other physical injuries Blair suffered at the hands of his captors, who turned out to be associates of Michael Stratton and who tried to get him released from prison in an exchange. Blair had several broken ribs, a broken left leg, bruises all over his body and a moderate concussion.

Blair was asleep because of pain medication Jim administered earlier that morning. Jim was surprised it was such a restful sleep. He stood in the open doorway, content to watch over his friend, to assure himself Blair's rest remained peaceful. Jim wanted to make sure if Blair woke, he'd be there for him, to make sure Blair was safe. It was the least Jim could do. If Blair felt up to it in the next couple of days, Jim would suggest they get away from the city for some time alone. Jim would leave the decision to Blair.

Blair moaned and stretched as much as he could in his bed and Jim held his breath, thinking Blair was waking. But he soon calmed down, drifting into a deeper sleep. Jim finally turned assured Blair would remain asleep. However, Jim would keep himself on alert, just in case.
