It was magical the first time they met. Blair knew in his heart that Jim was the man for him. It was fate, kismet, destiny, fate, fortune, predestination. Call it whatever you wanted to, Blair just knew Jim was the one. The only one.

Of course, convincing Jim of that fact was another matter all together. He was the poster boy for straight, heterosexual men everywhere. Blair noticed how Jim followed anyone in a skirt, constantly. Of course, so did Blair, but that was in order to build up his courage to tell Jim exactly how he felt about him.

It took him four years to get up his courage. It was a night after the dissertation fiasco and Blair was already drinking, something he had taken up to fill the void in his life. Jim saw it as a destructive streak and wanted to stop Blair from destroying himself.

Jim walked into the loft, seeing Blair standing out on the balcony, drinking a beer. When Jim joined Blair on the balcony, he saw two empty bottles already. Jim decided it was time they talked about this. He wanted Blair to lead a productive life.

Jim reached out, taking the bottle from Blair's hand. Their hands touched and it was like a spark of electric between them. Their eyes met and Blair finally had the words.

"I love you, Jim."

"I love you, too, Blair. But I can't have you drinking yourself to oblivion. Why did you wait so long to tell me?"

"Because I never thought you'd be interested in me. After all, I'm not female and I don't have long legs."

"I like short, curly-haired academics, too, Chief." Jim leaned in for a kiss. It was Blair and the smell of beer. Jim wrapped his arms around Blair, pulling him close in an embrace.

Blair only smiled, wondering why he wasted four years.
