The Beginning of Change
Debbie

Blair Sandburg sat in his car, wanting the world just to swallow him whole. His life was a train wreck and he had just made the worst mistake ever. He had been thinking about telling Jim Ellison exactly how he felt over the past few months. He had resisted doing it, unsure whether Jim felt the same way about him as Blair felt for Jim.

But over the past couple of weeks, Blair had seen signs that maybe Jim would be amenable towards Blair's advances. There had always been hugs and small bits of affection exchanged between the two men. Maybe, just maybe Jim would want to take it that extra step further.

Blair had made up his mind to confront Jim that evening, making him dinner and plying him with wine to put him in the mood. He had also gotten Jim a necklace with a panther and a wolf on the disc. Blair was ready to declare his love for Jim.

Dinner had gone fine, even if Jim wondered why he was getting grilled steaks during the week. Blair had announced he wanted to talk to Jim after the dinner was over and Jim seemed to accept the explanation. After dessert, which was chocolate mousse, Blair urged Jim into the living room and Blair sat opposite Jim and started his well-rehearsed declaration.

Jim sat there and listened, not reacting one way or another. It was as if Jim was in shock. When Jim didn't say anything afterwards, Blair took it as a sign that Jim didn't love him the way Blair loved Jim. That's when Blair realized he had made the biggest mistake of his life and had run away from the loft and Jim, vowing to himself not to return to the humiliation and the silence.

So, now, he sat in his car, reliving the catastrophe that was his life. His mind was working overtime, as he thought about what he would do now. He couldn't stay in Cascade, not with Jim in the same city. He could never look at Jim the same way. He only wished Jim had rejected him outright, had yelled and vehemently denied that he was interested in guys, especially Blair. But Jim had only sat there, stunned. Blair could imagine that it was a shock to such a straight guy like Jim.

All of a sudden, Blair was brought out of his musings by a tap on the window glass. Blair looked over to see Jim standing there. Blair rolled down the window, thinking Jim was ready to denounce him and kick him out of the loft.

Blair spoke first. "I'm sorry, Jim. I'll leave the loft. I wasn't thinking."

Jim covered Blair's mouth with his hand. "I'm the one who should apologize, Chief. I should have said something. It took me by surprise that we would feel the same about each other. I want you to come home so we can talk some more. I love you, too, Blair."

Blair smiled behind Jim's hand and the hand was removed after Blair licked it.

"Gross, Sandburg. You coming home?"

"Yes, Jim. I'm coming home. I have a lot more to talk to you about. Plus some things to show you."

It was Jim's turn to smile. "Last one home washes the dishes," yelled Jim, running to his truck.

Oh, I do love a happy ending. I was worried there for a few minutes, but then I saw where you were going and took a deep breath of relief. :) I loved the line, "Gross, Sandburg." LOL It was fun when it needed to lighten up. Thanks for the great story. :)

Glad you liked it. I visualized Blair licking Jim's hand and Jim's reaction to it. I've never been real good at doing humor in my stories, so I'm glad that worked as relief :)
