Blair was determined not to cry. He was a big boy now that he had started school. That's what his mother had told him.

He had started kindergarten when he was only four. He was smart for his age. At least that's what his teacher said. He wanted to play with the trucks, cars and the plastic farm animals that were in the big bins in the back of the classroom. The teacher wanted him to read and to do the addition problems on the papers.

He had thrown a tantrum when he refused to do the work. He started stomping his feet and holding his breath. The teacher placed him in the corner, faced towards the wall, away from the other students. She told him to stay there until he was ready to do the work.

Blair stared at the wall, counting the bumps he saw there. He didn't want to do the work. It wasn't as fun as playing with the other kids. He had never met so many kids before. Where he and his mom lived, there were only grown-ups, no other kids Blair's age. The other kids were allowed time to play, but not him. It wasn't fair.

The teacher left Blair in the corner until lunchtime. Before Blair was allowed to go to lunch, the teacher talked to him.

"Are you going to do your addition problems after lunch, Blair?"

Blair looked up at the teacher. He wanted to please her. He liked the teacher. "Yes, Miss Marker. I'll do my addition problems after lunch. Then, can I play with the other kids?"

Miss Marker smiled at Blair. He was such a charmer for one so young. "Yes, Blair. You can play with the other kids after you finish your work."

Blair beamed and then went to join his classmates for lunch.

Already getting into trouble in kindergarten. LOL But I can't imagine the pressure that was on him at four years old. :( Poor little guy.
